Money Box Academy Inc. aims to empower individuals, communities, families, and entrepreneurs through financial literacy, economic empowerment, and entrepreneurship to build prosperous futures.
Our Vision
To become the leading advocate and catalyst for financial literacy in underserved communities across North Carolina and beyond, fostering partnerships with schools, local government, financial institutions, municipalities, and other stakeholders
Providing comprehensive financial education programs tailored to individuals of all ages
Advocating for policy changes and systemic reforms at the local and state levels to promote financial literacy
Measuring and evaluating the impact of our programs to ensure effectiveness and accountability, with a focus on tangible outcomes such as increased financial literacy, improved economic well-being, and reduced poverty rates across North Carolina.

Crystal Mclean
Founder/Board Chair
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Fayetteville, North Carolina, I’m the proud founder of Crystal Clear Consulting Group. My journey began at Fayetteville State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance. From there, I set out on a mission to make a positive impact on my community, armed with a deep commitment to giving back.
Maria Johnson
Board Secretary
We are delighted to have Maria Johnson serve as the Board Secretary at Money Box Academy Inc. Born and raised in western North Carolina, Maria is proud to be the first in her family to graduate from college, holding a degree in Spanish Education from Berea College.

Our Board Member at Money Box Academy Inc. Terri brings a wealth of experience and a passion for education and operational excellence to our organization.
Jessica Jones
Board Member
Jessica brings a wealth of knowledge around connectivity and ecosystem building to leverage partnerships to strengthen our reach for our mission of strengthening financial literacy. She is also very focused on mental wealth and ensuring that financial literacy starts in the mind first.
Chris Peterkin
Director Community Financial Engagement
We are pleased to welcome Chris Peterkin, MPA, as the Director of Community Financial Engagement at Money Box Academy Inc. Chris brings over a decade of expertise in the credit union industry to our board. He is currently serving as a Senior Account Manager at Coastal Credit Union in Raleigh, NC.
